How To Use Old Pallets to Build a Sturdy Piglet Weaning Pen

How To Use Old Pallets to Build a Sturdy Piglet Weaning Pen If there’s one thing we’ve got plenty of on the farm, it’s old pallets and wood. Our latest piglets are 8 weeks old this week and ready for weaning. I like to try to wean them when they are still hanging around their mommas so they are easy to grab.

Today I went ahead and built a weaning pen where they’ll spend about another month until they’re big enough where they can be moved onto the next pen made of economy panels. The pallets we have work great for this stage of their life because there is not a lot of space between the slats and they cannot sneak through. Using the pallets may not look beautiful, but it sure beats spending $$$ to buy hog panels.

By about 6 months of age, they’ll be ready to be moved out onto the electric fencing in the woods. But for now, until they’re big enough, they’ll move from the other pens to ensure they stay in one place and aren’t wandering all over the farm and getting into trouble.
