In the U.S., where 49% of adults report receiving healthcare through an employer, lack of a nationalized healthcare system has been cited as one of the major contributing factors toward the underwhelming response to the spread of COVID-19. Dr. Steffie Woolhandler, co-founder of Physicians for a National Health Program, says without Medicare For All, the country is combating an epidemic "with our hands tied our back." While being uninsured certainly increases one's chances of contracting the virus, the rich won't be able to avoid coming into contact with it, she says. "You cannot buy your way out of this epidemic. We're going to have to conquer coronavirus together."
